S-: Hey, where are you?
S+: I have reached. I’m standing right outside the gate.
S-: Okay, I’m coming. Almost there. What color are you wearing?
S+. I’m wearing a lavender color shirt.
S-: Oh ya! I think I just saw you.
They shake hands…Hi, I’m S+. Hi, I’m S-. Smiles…
A few hours of music, nervous chatter, smiles, awkward forced dance steps, snatched moments of one-on-one talks and more smiles followed.
Cinderella hour arrives. S+: I have to leave now. My friend has come to pick me up.
S-: It was (really) nice meeting you.
S+: Same here. Keep in touch alright.
Another warm handshake. And bye bye…
S- gushes to fellow friend. That he felt nice. This felt nice. S-, who by now had gotten into a habit of finding faults and giving up on boys, finally wanted to have faith in this.
Eager beaver S- texts S+, “Have you reached home?”. Pat comes the reply, “Yes, long back. I’m having my dinner.” S-’s phone buzzes after a while again, “Are you free? Can I call you now?” S- smiles, again.
And they talked. All vague, all dreamy…nothing specific. None knew what was coming, what could be. But they still shared. S- was leaving town after a day. Nothing was sure. No guarantee…But that was not important.
But when next morning came, S+ wanted to see S- again.
And their story continued…
They don’t shake hands now, they hold hands. A lot. He hasn’t owned a lavender shirt since. She says black suits him now. There is no nervous chatter now. Even the silence between them is comfortable. Love for new music continues. He even sings now! They did keep in touch. S- is still the eager beaver. She makes S+’s phone beep often! S- hasn’t given up ever since. She still leaves town. But always returns to S+. After all, the duo gotta dine together! From teens to young adults, the ride has been unique to theirs.
The forces of - and + are bound to be different. But they are one. Each other’s shore, I say. One always finds the other.
I know. Coz I guess I know us best…
